Sensei's Notes

Thursday, May 13, 2004 :

The renovation process is ongoing. I have some wonderful articles for you -- now all I have to do is find the time to make them into web pages. Time is always a problem for me, there never seems to be enough hours in the day to do all the things I want to do.  I find myself having to get more organized as the demands on my time increase.

Speaking of which, I think Sensei's Notes should probably be moved to a blog, that way the archives would be much easier to manage. I'm doing things the old fashioned way here -- making web pages and publishing them every time I post this, and updating my index page.

I am preparing to get a domain name and a pay site, just as soon as I can organize my web pages and polish everything. But for now I am concentrating on doing one thing at a time. A few years back I remember not having anything to say -- I just wanted to help people find their way -- and now I don't have time to find my own way. Life is funny sometimes.

Light and Darkness

As I become more deeply involved in my practice I can understand why all those Zen Masters used to beat people with sticks. Other things become clear to me as well. I always used to wonder about these bizarre Zen techniques, but I am finally getting it. There is the community, which is collectively striving for union with the ultimate reality; and then there are individuals who are trying to destroy your work and thwart your efforts, because they are jealous (egotistical) -- if they can't experience it (and they can't because it cannot be experienced until you drop the ego) they want to prevent anyone else from experiencing it. It is infantile behavior and should be rewarded with a whack from a big stick.

"The ego is entranced by ... names and ideas... (However) names and concepts only block your perception of this Great Oneness. Therefore it is wise to ignore them. Those who live inside their egos are continually bewildered. "
