| Thursday, May 06, 2004 : I keep putting off translating the Lotus Sutra. Instinctively I must realize that no good will come of it... or too great a good -- I am not prepared to deal with either of these possibilities. First of all, I hate all religious documents that have been tampered with. You will notice it in the Christian Bible. Each generation of church leaders has written in a few lines of their own. Pretty soon Jesus isn't a teacher anymore he's God. This is convenient because you can't do what God can do, you can only worship him and put yourself in His hands. The lineage is a moot point, as is the Virgin Birth, the Flight to Egypt, and everything else that is outside of the teachings of Jesus. The question is: What did Jesus teach? What can we learn from him? The same applies to the Buddha. If we can't learn his teachings we'd be better off going to see a movie -- Hollywood is the master of creating bullshit stories! People nowadays no longer sit around the fire telling stories, if they did there would be a place for the elderly in our society. The big question for me is: How do you become the Path?
